Doughnuts made with Love (AKA GMO Free)

imageI’ve wanted to try Vortex Doughnuts for a while, on Sunday the family got the chance to have some delicious GMO free doughnuts. While it’s a bit tricky to avoid GMO’s especially when it comes to fried food, at Vortex Doughnuts its the opposite. From their beverages to their doughnuts they are committed to avoiding GMOs in their establishment. As well as avoiding GMOs they source locally and do not use preservatives, binders, or fillers.  image

Vortex uses twitter to let you know what doughnuts are available daily. My husband tried the salted caramel bacon and the Jelly filled. My daughter and I shared the salted caramel bacon, the turtle and the beignet (don’t judge). I have to say it was worth the sacrifice to my diet, who am I kidding, they were fluffy and light and I can’t wait to go back for more.

There is nothing artificial here, just pure goodness which is the way it should be.

You Put The Coffee With The Coconut Oil And Blend It With Some Butter

Okay I finally did it I blended my coffee with coconut oil and grass-fed butter and it tasted a lot better than I expected, in fact I thought it was yummy, but I bet you are all wondering why I did this. I’ve read a lot about how coconut added to our daily diet has many […]

Give man GMOs and you feed greed. Teach man Agroecology and you feed the world

One statement that I hear the most when debating the GMO topic is that they are needed to feed the world. Now the fact is, people are still starving and GMOs have been around for more than 20 years which shows us that statement is a sham probably perpetuated by the very companies that create the […]

Asheville Explosion Cupcakes

I have waited not so patiently for Highland brewing’s Thunderstruck Porter to come out to make these cupcakes. This recipe is a combination of the wonderful food and drink I have available here in the foodtopia I call Asheville. There were so many wonderful local treats in our goodie-food bags from Foodtopia Asheville for the food […]

Sugar, Ah, Honey, Honey

Did you know if it says sugar on the ingredient label more than likely it’s genetically modified? Yes, even if it says natural like that soda your drinking. I know what you’re thinking “but it doesn’t have corn syrup”. Unless it’s organic or says cane sugar you are probably eating sugar made from GM sugar beets. There […]

Pretzel Rolls Asheville Style

I have to admit I LOVE bread, the only problem is that avoiding high fructose corn syrup is a must and a challenge, especially when buying bread. Paying four or five dollars for a loaf is a budget breaker. Why do I want to avoid high fructose corn syrup? For one it’s GMO and two […]

The A-maize-ing! Incredible! Found Everywhere OMG It`s…

High Fructose Corn Syrup what is it? According  to wikipedia High Fructose Corn Syrup (HFCS)—also called Glucose-Fructose in Canada, Isoglucose, Glucose-Fructose Syrup or Fructose-Glucose Syrup in Europe and High Fructose Maize Syrup in some other countries. It comprises any of a group of corn syrups that have undergone enzymatic processing to convert some of its glucose into fructose to produce a desired sweetness. Because of its low price compared to sugar (because of our government supporting GMOs), HFCS […]

Whole Foods Preview

I took a tour of Whole Foods Saturday and was impressed with the setup, as someone who is trying to avoid GMOs this is a good addition to my shopping routine. Whole Foods products are free of artificial preservatives, colors, flavors, sweeteners (HFCS), and hydrogenated fats and have pledged that by the year 2018 all GMOs will be labeled. They already […]
